My favorite mode is CW. I enjoy contesting. I started contesting right after I got my license in 1967. In the early years I played in SS from Michigan for several years until college got in the way. I got back into DX contesting in 1978 with some multi efforts from KØSVX and N4RR and then went dormant again for a few years. More recently I have operated from WØWP, NØDY, NØNI in multi-single and multi-two efforts.

I finally had the opportunity to realize a couple of life long ambitions – contesting from the DX end! In 2004 I operated the CQWW SSB Contest as part of the team at PJ2T finishing 3rd worldwide. In early 2005 I succeeded in testing myself with a #2 World in the ARRL CW DX Contest as FG/NØYY operating in the Single Operator – All Band – Low Power class.

I continue to develop my station with several annual tests of skill and performance in the ARRL Sweepstakes contest and have been reasonably successful – winning the Midwest Division plaque for the Unlimited Class in 2004 and 2006. A few other ARRL DX International CW DX contest firsts in Iowa as well as a couple of Low Power first place finishes in Iowa in the ARRL 160 CW contest.

The focus now is on getting my 160 M performance up to the level of the rest of the station. Six 2-wire Beverages are the summer 2007 project.

I use DX4Win for day to day logging and focus on WriteLog for contesting. Computer control of the contest station remains my greatest challenge!
